Truth or Consequences in Child Rearing-

Parenting topics can be dicey. Seems most people have strong opinions about how to best turn out your offspring. In this episode, we tackled the benefits and challenges of child rearing and specifically discipline and consequences.  I don’t think anyone relishes having to hand out consequences to a misbehaving brat. But as a father of three I can tell you that there is no way to avoid it. If you shirk that responsibility, you are asking for trouble down the line. A healthy learner pushes boundaries at all stages of development and I remember my wife and I marveling at the creative assholiness of our kiddos.

How has it changed over time? What strategies yield the happiest and healthiest young people? These are the questions I was armed with as I delved into the research. We discussed that each child is a unique snowflake and require a tailor styled approach to learning. My oldest required extra explanation of basic social interactions, while my daughter has always possessed an intuitive understanding of our shared world. My youngest simply seeks out every opportunity to fuck with everyone and everything he crosses paths with.

For Kevin being on the cusp of parenthood, this timely topic was an exciting discussion of ideas about how he and his partner were approaching child rearing strategies. Turns out, like everyone about to become a parent, they have well-rounded, logical ideas of how to proceed. I can’t wait till their son pops out and fucks it all up!

John brought up a friend’s strategy of a conscious corner where shorties can go and live out their emotions away from judgment and without a doubt was the most obnoxiously named tool I have ever heard of.

Unfortunately for John, he had to spend most of the episode in timeout. 5 more minutes John and you can have a juicebox and a nap!
